chat dropping users

I had about 10 users chatting tonight and the chat room would drop them, ALL, then they would have come back in.

This is weird.  I have several users on dial up...what are my best chat sessions to be sure they don't get bumped off.

I suspect it has something to do with Old chat ping variable...it is currently set to 30...any advice would be appreciated.

thanks!

Jennifer

The old chat (that is, the version in current releases) requires a lot of server resources when you have that many people.  If the server can't keep out you might see people getting "lost".   You can bump old ping up to 60 or so, and slow down the refresh variable in the same place to something slower like 5 seconds or so.

The new chat in Moodle 1.4 has a solution that fixes all this.

Jennifer,

FYI - an earlier message this past week suggested end of Aug for 1.4
