not sure that is the right question, I'm just a bit out of my depth so any help would be much appreciated. It could be I'm asking too much at once as well!
We are looking at setting up a SAN system with virtualised servers. I don't know much about them, hence my questions.
We currently have 17 Moodles spread over three servers. One of which has reached pensionable age and would not want to be replicated as is.
The virtual servers will have much more RAM available so I need to know if Moodle can take advantage of the improved architecture, hence is it capable of working with 64 bit architecture, or is that more of a php / apache question? (Still working on looking those up.)
If we are moving all of our Moodles would we be better moving like for like where each Moodle and database and data folder are all on the same server or would we better putting all the databases together on a virtual server and all the data files together on a virtual server and all the moodles together somewhere.
I've seen the thread about 'cloud' computing http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=101531
but I don't think it really answers what I'm asking other than to say you can put them on virtual servers - but is it sensible?
