Hide Topics/Weeks from certain users

Hello, I have a course with a shared database which both schools and consultants are supposed to access. However, I need to separate the rest of the course so that only consultants can read the bulk of the material. Is there any way of doing this? Basically I would either need to create a new role for school and allow them to only see part of the course (if this is possible), or individually assign the topic permissions (if this is possible).

Not Topics as such. With 1.9 upwards you can enable grouping and hide resources and activities (or more correctly only make them available to a specified group).

Right, the problem is that I already have groups enabled to pair up schools and consultants... there is no way that I can have another set of groups right?
