We just upgraded to moodle 1.9 this weekend, before in 1.8 grades used to calculate and give you a course total, is there a setting that I am missing or why does it not calculate a total? Thanks!

Yes, 1.9 has some amazing gradebook calculation abilities. With more flexibility, there are a few more steps, though.
