my workshop module is not appearing as a activity to add or resource even though its installed and in the right directory, is there away of solving this ?

Go to front page site admin, modules>activities>manage activities and make sure the eye is open- or else it is hidden.

It could also be that the module didn't install properly. Make sure that you visit the "Notifications" area (link in the top of the site administration block) to make sure that any scripts that are necessary have been installed.
