A teacher recently feedback to me that she encounter a problem.
She has to conduct lesson for 3 out of the total 10 classes and she has a piece of assignment which all the students from these 10 classes would work on the same assignment. But she don't want to upload that assignment file for each class, as it would means she would have to do it for 10 times. So I suggested to her to upload her assignment into a class which i created as "All classes".
She then upload the file to the "All classes" & all the 200 -300 students submitted back their complete assignments So she asking if there a good solution for her to just pick up the assignments submitted by the students under her care? So that she wouldn't have to go though all the pages to just find her students' work.
As currently, when the teacher view the submitted assignments, only the name of the students are displayed in A-Z. I'm thinking it would be helpful if the class name is being shown too which would enable the teacher(s) to sort according to the class and download the assignments submitted by their classes.
Any solutions to these?
-> the same resource need not be uploaded for n times because of the difference courses/classes
-> able to sort / retrieve the submitted assignments for only the classes the teacher is in-charge of.
1) We do not wish to give Teachers the 'admin rights'
2) We like to protect our learning resources therefore putting it into the file admin area is not recommend for us.
3) We must keep in mind that not all Teachers are IT savvy, they just want to upload the teaching materials for their students in a quick, simple and easy way without having to know how to read the programming codes, the jargons etc. They want to make it less time consuming n less complex.
Really hoping to see a solution being developed soon.
I'm not entirely sure I understand your issue but I do advise you to have a read through the documentation on groups and groupings which is here http://docs.moodle.org/en/Groups
You can put your students into classes (groups) with class names and then when you look at work sent in by them or you look in the gradebook the students can be filtered so you only see one group's results at a time, and not all 200. This makes it much easier to mark.
I would try it out.
My solution involves using Groups. My Courses all have multiple groups, No pupil can enroll without a code. The main code is very long is not given out.
All my classes who use a Course enroll using there own class enrolment code, so class 8a1, uses enrolment code 8a1 and becomes a member of the group "2008-9 8a1". (This is so pupils who were in 8a1 last year do not loose their grades)
When enrolled I use the group menus to add ALL students to a group called All.
Each student is thus enrolled in two groups. I can thus select them as small or large groups.
Since a student can not be listed in the same group twice. Updating the All group means selecting All participents and putting then in the all group.
Hope this helps
I am still figuring out how to use Moodle.
are you referring to the enrollment key which was found under the Group Setting Page or the enrollment code is totally different thing from enrollment key?
FYI: I don't have admin rights as i'm not the systm admin, I only have teacher rights for moodle.
Thanks for your advice.
Adma, sorry only just read you reply.
If you click on the Groups section in the Administration Block
click " Create group"
Name your new group and insert a Enrolment key. (specific to this new group)
New students to your course when they first enter now enter the New enrolment key and are put into this specific group.
You must ensure that groups are enabled from the settings section in the Administration Block. ( I use Visible groups so one group can see another in the course)
Hope this helps
Thanks for your help.
if you're using the standard forum, and you have set the forum to Separate Groups mode,
1. Choose the Group name from the "Separate Groups..." Drop-down mene
2. Click on [Add a new discussion].
3. Fill in the subject name and your message.
That's all you need.
