Be aware too that every new course is 'born' with a News forum. To delete that in the course settings you must set News items to show 0.
Go to PhPMyAdmin and make it possible via: Forum > Visible > Change from > 1 > 0.
From now on you don't have the forum visible
I can reach the mdl_forum table, but I don't see any field labeled visible. Am I looking at the wrong table?
I have done as you suggested (using 2.2.7) but I still see the Forum under profile can you help?
You can actually do this through a URL hack. Go to the page where you would normally hide activities ( admin/modules.php) and look at the links for the other hide buttons (?hide=<activity>&sesskey=<yoursesskey>) You'll need to grab your sesskey from the link, but then you can write the URL:
By the way... this is really lame... there's no good reason that the button isn't displayed there...
