I have been playing around with problem for a week now and I still can't figure it out. Our school upgraded to Moodle 1.9.2 two weeks ago so gradebook is now completely different than before. Our problem is this: for all the old courses, I can see where you can change weights for different grade categories. However, all the new courses created after the upgrade, we can't set weights.
In the old courses, I would go to the grader's report page, turn editing on, then click on the little edit icon to edit grade category. On the editing page under "Parent Category", there is something called "Item Weight" where you can set weight for the category. But in the new courses, the "Item Weight" thing just simply doesn't exist.
I have compared settings between the new courses and the old courses and I couldn't find a setting that might be problematic. Anyone can point me to the right direction? Greatly appreciate your help. Thank you.
Never mind. I figured it out. Above the grade categories, there is an edit icon for editing the course, I need to check the "Aggregate including subcategories" checkbox for the item weight to show up!
Correction again: That didn't do it. What did it was at the course level. Click on the edit button and change the aggregation method to "Weighted means of grades".
Thanks for posting your solution to the problem. Many people don't bother to write how they found solutions, they just write with problems and wait for others to fix them. You show a good example, thanks
