Course Backup stops at sections

I tried to run a course backup and it just hung after "sections" - no error messages.
It's Moodle 1.9.2+ (Build: 20080813)

The automated backups seem to be having the same problem - here's the log

Any ideas anyone?

Please can someone help?

I have deleted my Moodle reinstalled - restored a backup from before the problem started and and it is STILL not backing up successfully.

More information - a new course backs up fine UNTIL I add an image of any kind (even brand new uploaded from my server) it which point the backup fails. This may be related to my other question on why images have disappeared?

I have added other kinds of files (made a link to an HTM file) but that did not break the backup. So it's not that moodle can't see the moodledata directory or anything, both the htm file and the jpg are in the same place on the server.

I have edited the Administration > Server > HTTP and "Use slash arguments" setting (now disabled)

This means that the new course can function normally, but the previous courses still fail on backup.
