A single generated Activites list regardless of activity type

We use version 1.8.4. We like to utilize our Activities block but find it difficult how the activities are separated out (forums, quizzes, assignments,...). We would like a single, automatic, generated list regardless of activity type. So whatever type of activities are offered in any given week of a course, there is one single place to click on (instead of 3 or more) to monitor progress through the course. Any suggestions on how to make the software do what we need OR any hopes for this change in the future?
