What if you don't use the quiz module at all. Questions can be added inside a lesson module as well. You could set up multiple lessons and set the dependencies in the lessons setting so that in order to advance to the next lesson the student has do pass with a certain percentage. Thats how I set up my courses.
Students have to start with lesson 1 and can't access any of the other lessons until they've passed the requirements. Once they've succesfully finished lesson 1 they're guided to lesson 2 automatically. If they do not meet the requirements lesson 1 will start over again.
