hi !

I am using the quiz module to set up and exam on my course. I inserted an image in one of the questions and it looked fine from the teacher (instructor) view. But when the students started taking the exam none saw that image.

Did anyone have a similar problem before ?

Thanks - Ani.

I'm new to Moodle though have been familiar with this platform. I have started creating some course for senior physics and in one of the pre-section quizzes/test I decided to create a few questions that need an image next to question. So I thought a good way would be to prepare the quiz in html, insert a table for the question with 1 row and two columns. The image was placed at the left of the question. I too cannot get the image to upload. know that the image files are saved seprately in an images folder when the html file is saved. So I can understand Ani's problem. Can someone help us? I attach an example of the few questions; maybe someone can play with the questions.

Does the GIFT format need to be always done in notepad as atext file?
If so how can an image be added to such a type of question?
If no images can be used with this (GIFT) format, what other formats are available?

ps. Moodle is great product and I'm enjoying working with it. It is a lot easier to work with than WebCT and Janison (an Australian LMS).

Remember you don't need to use an import format at all ... for questions with images in particular it's probably quicker to use the GUI interface to create questions.

Just upload all your images to the course files area, and then select each image from the popup menu that you see when editing each question.

Thanks Martin; do you mean the graphical interface that crops when you select various types of questions?

Does this support super-/sub- script?  Does it give me access to creating tables ?

When you are editing a question you should see the main question field with a HTML editor just like the one in the forums and everywhere else. It contains buttons for superscript and subscript.   as well as table tool ... it also has an "insert image" button if you want to insert images within the question.

Additionally, under that, you should see a menu that displays all the available images, from which you can select one.  Give it a try.

When the same method can be used to integrate sounds into quizzes it will be great for us language teachers. I will probably stop importing and use the GUI.

As long as your sounds are MP3 then it's pretty easy to click ed_link.gif in the editor, then Browse, then click your image in the list, OK and OK.

Sorry again. The multimedia filter is great. I could not get it working yesterday (due to stupidity) and felt envy towards the image dropdown menu (as is supplied for sounds as well in a piece of software called SMART HTML) but I agree, adding sounds is now

Re: images and other multimedia files.

By the way (and I hope that this is not a trade secret Linda) a nice way of adding a multimedia file (that makes it more difficult to see that one can download the file) is to link the sound to an image, such as a little icon, rather than to a word. sounds all round

Might it be possible to embed without linking? Here is an attempt.  No it seems impossible to add a link to nothing, as things stand. Perhaps I will add somethign to the bug tracker.

Ps, I hope they and the forum administrators don't mind my saying that, Linda Jamin and Bill Burgos make excellent audio quizzes.

I know this is a bit basic but I can see your button to play the mp3 and it works in my browser but I can't get it to show in my forum or in my quiz on my site. I click the 'insert web link' button and link to it  on a word  but the graphic button of the flash player doesn't show.

Several teachers at our faculty would like to use the quiz module for creating self-tests with possibly hundreds of questions with included images - it would be quite a tedious task doing this via GUI. Having a possibility to include reference to uploaded course files (both images and audio) into an import format would be of great help for us.

Daniel, do you have any update on this request?  What import format are you using, or wanting to us?  Are none of the import formats capable of importing the referenced image (versus images inlined in the html) into moodle?  I am looking at a mod to moodle that would enable additional referenced types (a text passage being my most desired).

I am interested in which import format provides the most complete implementation and also has a following in terms of available content, as can be seen by my other posts today in the quiz and lessons forums.

Any update is appreciated.

Hi,

I bet the reason you could see it and your students could not is the image was probably linked to your own hard drive example: c://image/etc

The way I add an image to a GIFT upload is to put it in a folder by uploading it.
then I simply put the html link in the questions.

For example I needed a weird Greek letter "N" in one of my sentences, and there was no html asci equivalent, so I made it into an image and simply put:

Greek word aret<img src="../questionimages/greekn.jpg" height="10" width="8" /> when uploaded it worked great.
