By way of example, a class has 5 categories, A-E.
Category E, weighted at 40% is for class projects.
Teacher creates a category "Unassigned" with 0 weight
Class project assignments are placed in "Unassigned" category.
Student has a score of 100% on 30% of the categoricals and 86% on 20% of the categoricals. On 10% the grade is dropped (drop the lowest single grade)
Looking at the grades under Totals, we see "Points, %, Weighted %, Letter Grade". Which shows up in the gradebook as:
However, if one places the quiz in uncategorized the grade pops up as it should.
So it looks like the gradebook in fact counted the dropped quiz against the student.
As a parent and as an educator the thing I dislike most about gradebook applications is the lack of detailed examples of the grades are calculated (and on more than one occasion in each capacity I have discovered errors in calculation.....)
WHat am I missing about how the drop feature is supposed to work, and can we provide some locked spreadsheets that demonstrate the various calculations, if not for 1.8 thenm at least for 1.9 so as to make usage more concrete?
