Job offered: Head of IT Development (Learning Systems)

We are looking for a Head of IT Development to manage the Learning Systems development team within IT Development at the Open University. This is an exciting opportunity, offering the chance to play a key role in ensuring that IT systems contribute to an excellent learning experience for our students.

The ideal candidate will have a blend of experience including formal systems delivery methods and successful package implementations together with experience of Virtual Learning Environments, On-line testing, asynchronous collaboration tools, workflow and working with Open Source communities.

The post holder will develop and maintain highly effective and influential relationships with stakeholders across the institution, ensuring that IT Development is appropriately engaged and stakeholders are managed effectively during all stages of business and pedagogic change. They will manage a team of around 25 Lead Developers and Developers, and will have responsibility for the utilisation, skills and development of staff within the team. They must be able to demonstrate leadership and management skills and the ability to drive change to completion. The role holder will work closely with the IT Portfolio Management Office to prioritise and plan software developments, ensuring that solutions are compliant with architectural standards and that agreed changes are delivered in accordance with agreed methods and practices.
