Working here, you're not just a developer; you are part of a team of committed people whose mission is to change the way education works. We believe that open source, open data and an open business model should and can be the preferred choice here and in the countries overseas where we work.

We are looking for an experienced PHP developer to join our eLearning team. You will be working on major eLearning open source projects such as Moodle, Mahara and Totara.

The foundation of your skillset is:

  • General Linux administration skills.

  • A good understanding of source control systems (ideally, git).

  • Experience working with databases (ideally PostgreSQL).

  • Able to debug HTML, CSS and Javascript issues.

  • Familiarity with tools and techniques for server configuration and code deployments.

  • The ability to communicate well with clients, team mates, sysadmins, designers and managers.

  • The ability to learn quickly.

  • A passion for open source.

Good things to include in your CV are:

  • References to any publicly available open-source work.

  • Any other examples you have of relevant work.

Working at Catalyst means living the open source dream. This includes, but is not limited to, a great work environment, superb coffee and fresh fruit everyday, a good social scene and - if it gets too good - medical insurance.

Catalyst IT is New Zealand's leading open source development company and has 200 plus staff world wide, with the majority (including this role) based in Wellington. Come and help us change the way education works in the 21st Century.
