Queen Mary University of London is the fourth

and postgraduate students. The College has around 3,000 staff, a turnover of
£200 million per annum and is a part of the Russell Group of leading UK
universities.
IT Services team is a seeking engaging and dynamic senior
PHP developer to help develop our services in a rapidly expanding e-Learning
market.
Ideally this would have been with the Moodle
learning management system where you would have created and modified Moodle
plugins.
The position offers the chance of working in a
technical challenging environment, utilizing a variety of tools and software.
Essential
requirements for the PHP Analyst Programmer (PHP,MySQL, JavaScript):
The successful candidate will need to have
extensive hands-on experience of supporting and developing web based
applications in PHP and various frameworks.
- Strong
demonstrable web development application experience using programming
technologies such as PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, AJAX and CSS
- MySQL
and writing complex SQL queries
- Optimising
code and queries; methodical, organised and structured approach to writing
code and problem solving
- Managing
small and complex development projects; management and delegation of tasks
to fellow colleagues
- Proven
experience with the use of the LAMP stack
- Some
Linux system administration and tools experience (grep, cron, ssh, scp,
vi, MySQL), preferably RHEL/CentOS. Comfortable working at the command
line
- Meticulous
attention to detail and a can-do attitude
- Good
problem solver, enjoying variety and delivering efficient, scalable and
client focused solutions
- Excellent
written, verbal and presentation skills and the ability to present complex
technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability
to multi-task, prioritise and work on own initiative
Desirable
requirements for the PHP Analyst Programmer (PHP, MySQL, JavaScript):
Ideally you should have experience of supporting
and developing a range of e-Learning services such as for the Moodle virtual
learning environment.
- Development
of Moodle plugins and extensions using the Moodle frameworks
- Knowledge
of the Moodle data model.
- Moodle
technical administrator actions and system configuration changes
- Experience
with GIT Version Control and GITHub web systems.
The developer will be responsible for providing 2nd
and 3rd line support to the users of the services both staff and
students. They are also responsible for the planning, development and delivery
of enhancements to the e-Learning services. You will need to take customer
requirements and use project management methodology and your technical skills to
provide effective and efficient delivery of e-Learning solutions to customers.
The post isfull time and permanent. Starting salary will be in the
range £35,319 - £41,553 per annum inclusive of London
Allowance. Benefits include 30 days
annual leave, plus an extra 4 College closure days, making 34 days in total,
defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan and
discounted gym membership.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in
accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where
required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under
the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
