Job Summary

Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced software professional with a full understanding of industry practices, community standards and relevant policies and procedures to medium-sized projects or portions of large projects with moderate scope and complexity. Resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates competency in selecting tools, methods and techniques to obtain results.

***Salary range is $110,000 - $140,000 annually based on commensurate experience and education.***

Department Description

The Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE) is the online learning environment used by all UCSF schools, graduate medical education, and some administrative departments for delivering curricular content, instruction, and training. The CLE provides critical services which are an integral part of the University’s instructional activities. The four professional schools create an online version in the CLE of every course they teach. The CLE is also being used by a wide variety of campus groups and departments to support collaborative activities. The CLE consists of several core systems including a learning management system (Moodle), a curriculum management system (Ilios), a video hosting platform (Kaltura), and several other components. In addition, other key services integrate with the CLE including the Registrar’s student information system, the lecture capture system (Mediasite) managed by Educational Technology Services, external file repositories (Box, etc.), and other systems. The CLE hosts thousands of UCSF courses and averages thousands of unique users per month.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum three years of experience or equivalent combination of experience / training.
  • Experience with AWS services administration and automation
  • Ability to manage Linux operating systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional
  • Focused expertise with one or more specific aspects of LAMP stack engineering such as writing and debugging code in PHP, Apache web server management, or MySQL database tuning
  • Familiarity with LDAP, Shibboleth/SAML, or similar related identity services
  • Familiarity with IT business continuity planning
  • Working knowledge of network configuration and operations
  • Experience with Moodle development and architecture
  • Familiarity with git (or other dscvm tool)
  • Familiarity with Github
  • Experience with fundamental web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Experience with CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform or other provisioning tools
  • Familiarity with agile software development practices
