Overview 

Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator is charged with ensuring the optimal installation of the Saylor Academy LMS to support its large, global student body. The LMS Administrator collaborates with multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure the efficiency and scalability of the platform. 

In addition to the above, the LMS Administrator will collaborate with the Academic Affairs and Student Affairs departments to ensure that the educational objectives of the Saylor Academy are being met. This includes troubleshooting any issues that may arise and providing the necessary technical support to the education team during the development and roll-out of courses and programs. The LMS Administrator will also provide guidance and training to faculty and staff on the use of the LMS to ensure the best user experience for students. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Developing and maintaining instructional documentation, training materials, and support information for faculty and students;
  • Strong knowledge of LMS architecture and design in order to conduct regular system maintenance, upgrades, and testing;
  • Adhering to best practices for security and data privacy;
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues with the LMS environment including applying HTML and CSS fixes to resolve formatting issues;
  • Experience with databases and SQL;
  • Researching, testing, and implementing new plugins and tools to support student learning;
  • Improving accessibility, mobile responsiveness, and other user experience issues;
  • Managing the development of course content, metadata, and security settings. This includes knowledge of elearning concepts, ensuring WCAG, ADA, Section 508, and UDL standards, and knowledge of preferred practices across digital platforms;
  • Developing and delivering user-oriented training on the use of the LMS;
  • Creating and managing user accounts and course enrollments; • Monitoring user accounts, course access, and user activity;
  • Providing technical support to faculty, staff, and students;
  • Developing, tracking, and reporting on course completion, user data, and system performance;
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the LMS meets their needs and requirements, and assist with the development and review of policies and procedures as they relate to the appropriate and compliant use of learning technologies. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science/Technology, Education Technology or a related field, or a Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization;
  • Experience in higher education is a plus;
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends if needed;
  • Three or more years of documented experience managing an LMS, with Moodle expertise preferred;
  • Experience with troubleshooting and resolving technical and user issues;
  • Experience with project management methodologies;
  • Assisting in the development of LMS-integrated applications. Theme design and programming experience are a plus (e.g., PHP, SASS, JavaScript, and any other language used in Moodle).
  • Experience with navigating in an AWS environment and understanding how to securely remote into the servers using SSH keys; and
  • Proficient skills with version control software such as GitHub. Employment Type: Full-time, exempt position. Benefits will be provided. 
Reports To: Director of Information Technology
Salary: $63,000-$70,000, depending on experience and alignment with our nonprofit mission.
Location: The successful candidate may work remotely in the United States, depending on state of residence. Priority will be given to candidates in the Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Baltimore-Washington, DC metro areas.
