The University of Cambridge wishes to appoint a Functional Analyst to join the multidisciplinary Teaching and Learning (T&L) Systems team, supporting the University's central T&L Systems, primarily the Moodle VLE.

The T&L services team consists of Functional Analysts, Learning Technologists, Technical Developers (Moodle), Support Analysts and Trainers. The team are responsible for the central Virtual Learning Environment, Lecture Capture (Panopto) and Text Matching (Turnitin), but the portfolio of the team may grow over time.

The role holder will join a small team working with academics and staff across a wide range of subjects and locations, providing T&L product specific advice (primarily VLE), guidance, encouragement and support to help staff become competent and confident users of the system across the Institutions and Colleges of the University. The role holder will improve the blended learning experience of students by offering support to academics, departmental administrators & computing officers, and provide expert advice (product and wider T&L systems knowledge) to management and university governance groups.

Over time the role holder will use business analysis and project management methodologies, such as the MoSCoW method, user stories, agile sprints and user acceptance testing to articulate user needs and translate these into supported change and scheduled releases within T&L products.

During the annual VLE upgrade cycle the role holder will play a vital part in evaluating change, performing change evaluation of configuration change, updating support material and advising on policy and procedures. The role holder will be expected to ensure university policy compliance such as data retention, accessibility and GDPR in all changes evaluated.

The role holder will be expected to play a central role in any projects to evaluate new T&L service offerings or to integrate the VLE with other systems. Responsibilities will include adapting teaching & learning tools to business needs, evaluating and articulating user needs, producing research papers and process flow diagrams, offering advice and professional expertise around configuration, and ensuring the user's voice is considered within the service.

Continual improvement is key to the successful and efficient operation of the services on offer, and so the role holder will be expected to undertake trend analysis & research, and then articulate a suggested resolution for discussion. The role holder will be expected to deliver successful resolution through problem solving, which may include liaison with other Cambridge VLE teams, external providers (JISC, ALT, and other Universities), and research into possible VLE extensions and integrations.

The role holder will also provide 2nd line helpdesk support ensuring assigned requests are managed according to procedures, using version control and release management standards and software.
