The Department of Global Health’s E-Learning Program develops and manages online courses for an international audience and supports department faculty in the development and implementation of education, research, and service projects with integrated e-learning. 

The Program has an outstanding opportunity for a 6-month, Full-Time, Temporary Moodle Developer who will be responsible for customizing and supporting Moodle platforms for online courses in international training programs. 

This position will be located at the Harris Hydraulics Lab on the University of Washington main campus, with opportunity to work remotely.  The individual will report to the Managing Director of Global Health E-Learning Program. 

Moodle Development and Administration (75%): 
• In collaboration with the Managing Director and other project staff, manage the technical administration of Moodle deployment 
• Develop sustainable backup/restore routines for Moodle server 
• Ensure stable performance on Moodle server 
• Implement theme changes in collaboration with project leads 
• Support development and maintenance of registration processes 
• Advise on technical improvements to Moodle as needed 

Moodle Mobile Development (25%) 
• Create fork of Moodle Mobile App customized to project Moodle install 
• Ensure appropriate delivery of downloadable content in Moodle Mobile App 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field 
• 3-5 years of experience in developing and maintaining web-based systems 
• Experience with modern web technologies, primarily PHP and MySQL 
• Demonstrated experience with installing, configuring, and managing Moodle learning management systems 
• Familiarity with code management software, particularly Git and Bitbucket 
• Basic system administration skills in *nix systems 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. 
• Ability to work in a team situation with both local and remote members 
• Flexibility in schedule to accommodate collaboration with partners in international time zones 

• Experience with deploying Moodle in low-resource settings 
• Experience customizing Moodle Mobile App 
• Familiarity with international development projects 

• Available for project phone calls/meetings in the early morning and late evenings to accommodate worldwide time differences.
