Nine Lanterns specialise in creating engaging eLearning solutions for a range of blue-chip companies as well as education and not-for-profit organisations.

We have a great opportunity for an experienced Web Application Developer to take a leading role in solution architecture and technical development. The ideal candidate will be team orientated, willing to share knowledge, and enjoy a challenge. You will be responsible for developing and supporting web based applications with a focus on Moodle customisations and deployments in enterprise environments.

Being a vital member of a vibrant and highly skilled team comprising project managers, illustrators, graphic and instructional designers and programmers, the right candidate will possess:

  • Desire to learn new technologies and about eLearning
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team based environment
  • Strong creative problem solving skills, drawing on your experience and environment to solve project problems
  • Close attention to detail, being able to identify scope creep and ensuring all requirements are met through high quality code
  • Well organised, with the ability to manage your own tasks to the specified deadlines
  • Flexibility, being able to cope with changes in priorities and approaches in real-time


This role requires the following skills:

Must be able to demonstrate expertise in:

  • PHP
  • Javascript, AJAX
  • HTML, CSS
  • MySql - database design, SQL
  • Working under version control systems (SVN, GIT)


Would be advantageous to demonstrate knowledge in any of the following:

  • Moodle - development
  • Drupal - administration and development
  • Understanding of eLearning technologies - SCORM/AICC, LMSs

Responsibilities:

  • Proposing innovative and appropriate technical solutions from client briefs
  • Working within project time and budget constraints
  • Developing high quality technical solutions from agreed specifications in accordance with framework best practice
  • Mentoring junior technical developers
  • Peer reviewing code
  • Demonstrating and encouraging best practice
