Overview

A creative, fast-moving and forward-thinking Music Technology and  Production College requires web developer/programmer to developing plug-ins and bespoke functionality for the Moodle virtual learning environment. You will work closely with the eDevelopment Manager and join the role ready to write amazing code that solves our wish-list of existing development requirements.

 

Details

 

  • Salary: £16,000 - £25,000 depending on experience


  • Commences: ASAP


  • Reports to: eDevelopment Manager


  • Place of work: Primarily central Plymouth, some optionally from home


  • Primary Activity: Create a series of Moodle 2.x plug-ins which solve an existing wish-list of Moodle developments.


  • Secondary Activity: Engage enthusiastically in the future of (specifically) our Moodle 2.x system and (generally) our wider eLearning infrastructure, creating a world class exemplar of envelope-pushing VLE development. Here, you might develop APIs to other online VLE-related services, code in-house non-Moodle developments and oversee builds of Moodle across multiple centres.


  • Tertiary Activity: Liaise with our outsourced, third-party Moodle hosting/support company (note that your role does not require you to provide the support yourself).

Degree or equivalent in computer science or related discipline

Experience

Min. 6 months Moodle programming and current to Moodle 2.x


Examples of bespoke Moodle plugin development and maintenance


Keen interest in the Moodle development community

Sound knowledge of code security, appropriate to the protection of the student data in our care

Genuine wish to be part of a forward-thinking international educational institution, seeking to push the boundaries of e-learning provision

Writing plug-ins to Git/CVS


Installing and running multi-site Moodle installations

 

Cross-browser optimisation


Moodle integration modules (e.g. GApps, Shibbolith, Mahara)

Experience with 3rd party or API plug-in integration (e.g. a school MIS)

Visual design skills would be great (e.g. Photoshop

Illustrator) as would a general awareness of DAWs (e.g. Apple Logic, ProTools, Reason)
