Job offered: Moodle Module development project

Type: Contract
Location: telecommute

Carnegie speech trains people to speak more clearly, and would like to create a moodle module that would add speech capability to a Moodle 2.2+ lesson/quiz system. Basically

  1. when constructing the quiz, we would like to indicate that the response would be spoken.
    1. We have to deal with the pronunciation of unusual vocabulary words. But that could be a phase 2 deal.
    2. The speech recognition can handle multiple-choice and free speech (essay) type of questions. We might want to also add focus words to be included in the essay questions.
  2. When the student takes the quiz, a javascript controlled flash module would give the student to turn on the microphone and record their answer.
  3. The flash module streams the audio data to our servers and returns a result.
  4. The javascript analyzes the result and updates the grades.

The javascript controlled flash module is currently used in this way in a moodle 2.2 system, but not in a way that a teacher can construct their own lessons/quizzes. We would like to extend the quiz system to do this.

I am looking for some level of estimate of time and cost to do this project, so I can fund it.
