Would you like your students and staff to be able to access their home drives and network shares over the internet? If so, that's exactly what this block does.
It is basically a wrapper for smbwebclient - http://smbwebclient.sourceforge.net
1) Moodle installation MUST be running on LINUX, FreeBSD or other SMBClient ready OS. It is possible to run on Windows with cygwin installed and smbclient for windows.
2) For the homedirectory link to work your students must login using LDAP with a 'homedirectory' field populated (This field can now be configured if you are using an alternative to Active Directory).
NOTE - THE LATEST VERSION OF THE BLOCK SHOULD WORK ON A WINDOWS SERVER!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING SMBCLIENT32 (NOT THE BLOCK) ON WINDOWS:
V1.8 and V1.9 installations can now use this block with the LDAP Capture Authentication plugin. This means that it will not ask your users to re-enter their username and password on opening a network share.
NOW available for Moodle 2!
* NOTE - If you have a previous installation of this block, you are advised to change your config - $smb_cfg->cfgInlineFiles = false;
** Ubuntu 8.10 has some issues with smbclient. Please see the README.txt file for more information.
