Hi all,

I saw the announcement for the MoodleMoots, but find the one in the US not directed at my needs. I'm looking for a peer-to-peer conference to share tips and tricks, best practices, using specific modules, etc. Call me old fashioned, but I learn best when working with people in the same room.

My preference would be to target it to high schools (since I teach in one), but we might need to expand it a bit to get attendance high enough. Perhaps the target could be stated as "Moodle for teachers" or something similar to differentiate it from "backend" development/administration (but some of that might be included as well).

Is anyone interested in such a gathering? Do they exist, but I just haven't found them?

I could host one at my school over the summer (San Francisco Bay Area, good computer labs and wireless, decent hotels nearby).

I'm also posting this in the lounge forum.

SUNY Delhi will be hosting our second 2-3-98 Conference: An Open Discussion on Technology in Higher Education, again this year on August 6th and 7th. Like last year, this first day of the event focuses on a variety of open source tools in use throughout Higher Education: Bedework Calendar, Drupal, Linux Desktop, Mahara eportfolio, Moodle, Sakai, OSP e-portfolio, uPortal and others.

Day Two we will be hosting a Moodlemoot, with all presentations focusing on Moodle. Presenters are faculty and staff from Cal-State, JA-SIG, Marist, Sage, SUNY and Penn State with a keynote from Bob Sutor, VP of Open Source at IBM.

Having been presenting at Moodle Moots in Oklahoma and San Francisco the last two weeks... I think your plan sounds good - focus on Moodle as a teaching technology, and include some technical / business areas too - so there is something for everyone

Thanks for the reply and I apologize for not responding sooner. Things have been hectic here.

I haven't talked with Manabu3 about the conference yet but am not really opposed to it, however, we are currently envisioning an academically oriented Moot that focuses first on using Moodle in various academic settings (e.g. language teaching, science, math, etc.) as well as use of Moodle to assist with curriculum and program management, and then as a secondary focus possibly hosting presentations with a more technical focus.

I am not familiar with the correct protocol for organizing a Moodle Moot so I guess I need to do a lot more investigation but we are definitely keen to host an official Moot so if the involvement of a local partner is necessary we'll be on it.

I did communicate briefly with both of the partners here in Japan about a year back with a proposal for development of a new enrollment plugin but ended up going with Moodlerooms in the U.S. as the two partners here in Japan were not in a situation to undertake the project. That project is in the alpha stage of development at the moment and will hopefully be completed later this fall and ready for contribution to the Moodle community. We are hoping to be able to present at the Moot we host (is that cheeky ) and explain how the plugin developed is allowing us to use Moodle as not just an LMS but also as a PMS (Program Management System).

I'd love to visit Japan again, and would be happy to talk about Moodle Certification and some of the other areas I'm involved with (social-networking using Moodle, using Moodle in Business, etc.)

However, we are pretty busy, so can only attend events that do have a Moodle Partner involved in a major way - what I might term official Moots, rather than smaller(?) informal gatherings.

Hello all,

I am currently working on organizing a MoodleMoot (only in the very early planning stage) for the summer of 2010 in Shizuoka, Japan. The Moot would be hosted at my university (Nihon University - College of International Relations) which is located about an hour from Tokyo station by bullet train.

We are currently considering the first weekend in August as a possible time frame and most likely a two-day event.

Just throwing this out there to see what kind of response I can get in terms of interest as well as any pointers or recommendations.

SUBMISSIONS

We invite you to submit contributions dealing with the various ways in which Moodle can be used.

POSSIBLE TOPICS

· didactics, methodology
· strategies, co-operation, networking, team work, virtual teams, Web 2.0
· examples and reports about experiences, best practice
· assembling and packaging learning content
· technology, tools, and software (methodology and media competence)
· qualification (train the trainer, etc.)

PRESENTATION TYPES

· Lectures: 20 minutes presentation time with 5 minutes discussion or 40 minutes presentation time with 10 minutes discussion. Please submit a one-page abstract. If your contribution is accepted, please submit the full paper of about 3 pages and prepare appropriate presentation slides. Contributions will be made available online to conference participants after the conference.

· Workshops are welcomed to make platforms, concepts and experiences more tangible. Duration: 45 or 90 minutes. Please submit one page describing your workshop. Workshops take place in rooms with a maximum capacity of 20 computer places. If you need further resources, please list them when submitting the workshop description.

· Virtual Live Contributions (on request) are meant to allow people to participate in the Austrian MoodleMoot who are unable to attend the conference for reasons of time or distance. Duration: 20 minutes presentation and 5 minutes discussion. Please submit an abstract about one page long. Technical details will be clarified in advance after your proposal has been accepted.

About the conference

Two years ago the Faculty of Management decided to host the first Slovenian Moodle conference (also known as a MoodleMoot) to bring together users, developers and administrators of Moodle, one of the most popular online learning management systems in Slovenia. For the second year in a row, we are making the Slovenian MoodleMoot an international conference and we are inviting Moodle enthusiast from all over the world to share their Moodle experience and meet with Slovenian Moodle fans. The 3rd Slovenian MoodleMoot will feature several presentations from Slovenian users, but will also include an international section in English.

Call for presentations

We invite you to present your experience with using Moodle and other related tools in your environment. To announce your presentation, send us an e-mail at cei@fm-kp.si by April 20th 2009 that includes:

your name and affiliation,
the title and short abstract (no more than 500 words) of your presentation,
chosen presentation mode (in case you would like to present remotely via Skype) and special requirements for the presentation (if any).

Presentations should be limited to 15 minutes.

If you wish, you can also send send us a paper (no more than 10 pages) or a poster (recommended size 50 cm x 70 cm) related to your presentation. Papers and posters can be submitted in MS Word, OpenOffice or PDF formats. See this template for recommended paper format. All of the accepted papers and posters will be published and distributed on a CD.

Attending the conference

You can attend the Slovenian MoodleMoot for free in the lovely and sunny coastal city of Koper, Slovenia (view location on Google Maps). We ask you to confirm your attendance before May 22nd at cei@fm-kp.si.

The international section will be scheduled sometime in the afternoon. The final schedule will be available beforehand on the confrence website. You can send additional questions about the conference at cei@fm-kp.si or post them on the conference site.

The conference is organized by the Centre for e-learning at the Faculty of Management Koper in collaboration with Artesia, Open Source Center Slovenia, and National School for Leadership in Education.
