Can negative marking be assigned to questions / Quiz

Hi All,

Searched a lot in forums, found few topic but none specific. My question is can we assign negative marking to questions or to quiz as a whole. I tries assigning negative % to questions but its not working, not even with penalities.

Is there any way to it or i have to go into the code?

In the default Moodle installation negative marking (penalty) is possible only in adaptive mode.  For general purpose one needs to get into the codes.

Can you explain how it is possible in Adaptive mode.. since i tried it as well but wasn't fruitful.

Hi Manish,

It looks you a moodle user from long time.

I want to know that, if using commercially can we :-

1.Assign test ( tests) to a particular user .

2. Assign test ( tests) and/or course to a particular user .

3.Can this product be used a as assesment solution only?

4.How do we have control on number of tests or monthly usage?

I would be grateful if you can answer these questions.

There was a thread about Confidence Based Grading that I found quite interesting which also needs negative marking. At present Moodle allows negative marks only for part och a multianswer question so one can prevent someone filling all alternatives to "caver all the bases". But even if the sum of points on a question turns out negative Moodle saves Zero.

I am currently trying to learn more about SCORM and Moodle. It is said that Moodle will save a negative score from a SCORM package. But I'm not sure if those saved statistics integrate with Moodles Grades. (I'm actually not as interested in Grades as in instructive Feedback to pupils).

But if you have the ability, there are a lot of people that would appreciate the possibility of negative marks.

Vikram found a way to do it. Contact him and he will send you the details. He implemented it in 1.6.4. I tried it in 1.9 for multiple choice and multiple choice in cloze questions and it works perfectly.

NB Jaime's 1st change may be needed for other Q types in /question/type/questiontype.php as well as /question/type/multichoice/questiontype.php

Hi Jeff,

the negative marking exspecially transported within a cloze question is the only solution to solve some tricky questioning problems.

Therefore I promise to donate 200 $ to Moodle if the problem will be solved until end of September 2008.
