I need some cool or funny (and preferably both) new slogans or designs to spice up the Moodle T-shirts in the Moodle shop. I'm thinking we have the straight logo on one side and the slogan on the other side.

"Use your Noodle, use Moodle" is one slogan of Jeffery Watkins' from a long time ago. It's quite good, but can we do better?

Let's see some creativity!

Submit your designs here in this thread (as fairly low-res JPEG or PNG files, save the hi-res versions for later) - I'll put them up for a vote and the most popular three designs will be sent out as prizes to the winning designers on their choice of any t-shirt from the shop! (and the rest of us can buy one if we want to!)

Hi Koen,

that's slogan (with a big M and a hat in the centre of the t-shirt can be really amazing). I'll buy one, sure! wink

More slogans (without graphical artefacts):

"Moodle: Born to learn"
"Yes, I'm a moodler!"
"How many moodlers do you know"
"Life is life, learn is Moodle"
"Vini, vidi, Moodle"
"Just Moodle"
"Why? (in the front), "why not" (with a big logo in the back).
"Cheers!"
"Good Moodling"
"I've had an idea..."
"When will 1.5 be released?"
"Moodle and I"
"Moodle and you"
"Something has changed"
"Bye, bye, instructivism (objectivism)" (http://it.coe.uga.edu/itforum/paper48/paper48.htm) tongueout
"Something has happened"

And what about a perfect square of text (filled with a powerful phrase in, at least, 60 different languages wink), with Moodle's logo in the centre and the text fluxing around it.

Too tired to draw anything but I didn't resist the temptation to write this... ciao smile

Really nice phrases Koen.

Aww, Ralph, that's the magic of Photoshop. With it, you can get the cow to stand still long enough to make him wear a hat and dump orange paint all over his brown spots. Amazingly enough, I think the Moodle hat was made for this cow. It didn't have to be resized one pixel to fit directly on his head, using the original resolution of the hat and the cow picture.

That would go well with the cows, but I'm not sure how well it would work in other countries that didn't have the "Got Milk?" advertising campaign. I assume you are familiar with it from watching American television? It would be better if the cow I chose had an udder in that case though...

Ralph

In reply to Ralph Blakeslee

Re: New Moodle t-shirts

by N Hansen -
What do you think I am, a plastic surgeon? wink I think no udders is better, exposing all those breasts could offend someone's morality, or at least lead children to poke fun at it. I once gave a lecture to some 12 year old school kids about ancient Egypt, and showed this slide in which there was a figure of a captive Nubian woman (among many others) carrying a child on her back. One of the kids said, "What's that hanging under her arm?" to which another kid exclaimed, "It's her boob." Believe me, it's not something you want to have to deal with.

Re: New Moodle t-shirts

Nicole,

Your Nubian story reminds me why National Geographic was so popular with 10 year old boy set.  Now a days all they have to do is turn on MTV.

Many years ago my wife and attended the New Years Day Mummers Parade in Philadelphia.  One club’s theme was “fun in the barnyard”.  In addition to men dressed as chickens, pigs, the farmer and his daughters, about twenty guys were dressed up as dairy cows.  They walked down the parade standing upright in their costumes.  Ok use your imagination and picture where the cows udders (note the use of the plural form of the word) where located on the costumes.  Interesting sight.

All and all, I still vote for the cow….its Moooodlerrific!

This just reminds me of something very stupid that came out of the mouth of my best friend in high school. A group of us went to San Francisco one Saturday and we went to this museum that had these life-size dioramas of Native Americans engaged in daily life activities, dressed (or undressed if you like) in their traditional way. In front of one of the female figures, my friend exclaimed, "Oh my God, she's not wearing a bra!" as if the bra was the only thing the figure was missing...

This all reminds me of a Far Side cartoon - the one where the cows are chatting, standing on their hind legs and leaning on the fence like they're proppign up a bar, until a car goes past and they return to grazing.

Here's a concept which maybe someone more awake than me can help with: I was thinking about an idiomatic expression, having to do with water or waves, and meaning something like "bringing change" or "challenging the status quo". There is such an expression in Greek, I 'm really really convinced that something almost literally equivalent exists in English, but it's not coming to me. Anyway, assume "stirring the waters" for the sake of this post.

T-Shirt front: logo, back: an image like this, this or this (the second is more like what I had in mind, but it has an extra surfer in the picture) with the slogan "stirring the waters of education".

Going to sleep, and hoping that someone can enlighten me even if the slogan sucks. tongueout sleepy

Thanks for you kind words. It was actually kind of a fuin exercise. I have done mind mapping before but have never been 100% into the software and I hate doing it on paper. Seems to defeat the purpose for me. Open Mind seems good. I know of some schools in the UK using it for e-portfolio work.

Anyhoo, as a result of my play I am going to try and buy the software at work and see if the students would like to use it to organise their progress.

I think it would be an interesting design but would depend upon how much space on the t-shirt was available.

The class is always greener on the Moodle side.

I really like this design but at the risk of becoming the most unpopular person on the forums... Wouldn't it look better without the Mortarboard?

The Mortarboard carries with it a weight of culturally and academically specific connotations that seem unsettling in the context of the Moodle ethos.

The Mortarboard seems also to locate Moodle in the past - being highly symbolic of authority, tradition, and the class system.

Aesthetically - and I'm talking personally here, that cap isn't an attractive symbol. The letter M/word Moodle (with it's rounded typeface) and the orange colour would much funkier and cleaner.

Nah, I like the hat - it doesn't have bad associations for me (I don't come from the UK!). And anyway, a little gravitas isn't a bad thing in a world of funky clean brands. smile

On a purely design level for this circular moodle powered logo I agree - the hat is not quite right in there.

Just put my finger on why I like the hat: for me it puts focus on the student's head/brain/learning, whereas many academic logos one sees around put focus on the institution (pillars, buildings, blackboards) or on graduation (degree papers), or are a bit too abstract (trees, apples) etc

Re: New Moodle t-shirts

I never wear t-shirts to school (no formal policy, I just don't think it looks very professional). But I made an exception when I got this great Harry Potter t-shirt. The front reads "I solemnly swear I am up to no good." The back reads "Mischief managed." (If you haven't read the books this won't make sense!)

Anyway I decided to wear the shirt to school because I knew my students would like it. The principal had neglected to inform me that we were having a conference with a parent to discuss retaining a student that day. So here I sit in the conference with a shirt that reads "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" while explaining to the parent that her daughter is immature, has very poor work habits, and needs to repeat the grade! mixed

Other idea:

Underneath:

For convenience, here's the whole thing as a single download (35Mb zip!)

I think credit for any derivative Moodle mosaic should go to Vincent, the idea is what counts for this one.

The actual T-shirt image needs to be 2000x2000 ... here's an alternative one I knocked up (this is scaled to a quarter of the actual generated image).   I especially like how the dangling string is a single line of heads. Someone with more time may want to weed out a few of the images from the full set, or insert some particular meaningful ones.

Re: New Moodle t-shirts

Hi Darren!

The images are really cool.  However, I have a suggestion about Martin D's image.  I think it would be good to remove the clock in the image before combining it with the mosaic.  It is hard to tell what the clock is in the image and I think it is distracting.  Also I think his image should be moved just a bit to the right but not center.  Just think the image would look better that way.  Just an opinion.

Anyone else have some thoughts about this??

Based on the poster at the top right of this, there could be two people with mortarboards on looking at each other over the globe (collaboration across the world and all that), and there are several possible placements for the Moodle logo: superimposed on the globe, in the sky, or several small Moodle logos in the sky like the planes in the original.

Great ideas, Josh. I like "I want to be a super moodle" best.

But you have to add a picture of the Moodle super model on the front side. I recommend a bust of Martin. But instead of his patented black goatee and black clothing, change the color to an orange goatee and an orange turtleneck. While you are at it, could give an orange tint to his hair?

Re: New Moodle t-shirts

by Bob Puffer -
My humble apologies for going slightly off-topic on this post but the reasons are numerous and therefore, I've convinced myself to plod ahead:
  1. This is surely the most-read thread on the site -- hilarious, enormously entertaining, frighteningly revealing of the "true" nature of some denizens of development.  Therefore, my message will be widely dispersed and if it's considered strange, it will be in good company.
  2. There really isn't a "new" Moodle shirt out yet so my message about mass  display of the "old" Moodle shirt in a public forum seems "almost" on-topic.
  3. An exhaustive search of other forum topics resulted in no good-fit for this posting.
So...
I'd like to invite any Moodlers so inclined to wear their Moodle shirts (or other garb) at Educause 2006.  I'll be wearing mine out on the exhibit floor on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 11.  If this timeframe fits others, it'd be great if the crowd was full of "those little M's".
