Moodle in English: Yet another upgrade error

trying to upgrade from 1.9.6 t 2.0.3 and during the plug in check, I;m getting this massive error

Debug info: Data too long for column 'intro' at row 1
UPDATE mdl_quiz SET intro = ?,introformat = ? WHERE id=? ...

bump again... at wits end ... don't know why this is so difficult..

should update to 1.9.7, then to .8 then to .9 and then to 2.0.3 using mysqldump in between?

Theory says that you should be able to do it in two steps:

1.9.6 -> 1.9.12 -> 2.0.3.
