We are currently testing moodle platform and it turns out that students registered in a course do not receive notifications when a teacher creates a new assignemnt.
The teachers on the other hand do receive notifications of every new assignemnt created Do you know if there is any plugin or patch I may be needing or if there is anything that is not working OK?
We are using Moodle 1.9.5+ (Build: 20090603)

Currently students do not get automatic emails when a teacher creates an assignment. However, the teacher can post in the news forum and it will email to all students.
The reason this functionality doesn't exist it that usually teachers set up the course first and then students enter it and are able to see all of the due dates. If a teacher does modify something mid course, then the teacher can post to the news forum to inform students of the change.
As far as I know, there isn't a plugin to do this, but I believe Moodle 2.0 has improved event handling and so people could easily make plugins to create this functionality
