Activity Module: Mediasite Content Module

Mediasite in Moodle
Type: Activity Module
Requires: Moodle 1.9
Status: Contributed
Maintainer(s): Sonic Foundry, Inc.

This activity module allows an instructor to link to secured Mediasite content from within a Moodle course. The instructor can add a new Mediasite link by searching for presentations or catalogs on the Mediasite server. Once a Mediasite activity is added to a course, students are able to view the content without authenticating to the Mediasite server and the student's username in Moodle will be used for Mediasite reporting.

This module requires Mediasite 5.0.1 or later.

We're using the Mediasite content module for Moodle in some of our Extension courses here at NC State University. However, we're having problems with it. If we provide a Mediasite account name with global privileges, we're still only able to search for and link to public content within Mediasite. Has anyone run into or solved this issue?

Thanks! Irribarrea

James

Hi James,

The module was written so that it impersonates the current user in Moodle when performing searches. If you are logged into Moodle as "instructorA", then the search in Mediasite is performed as that username. There is an assumption that both Moodle and Mediasite would be authenticating to the same user store (LDAP, AD, etc..), so the usernames would match. If this is not the case, you can create a user in Mediasite with the same username as your Moodle user and assign them the desired permissions in Mediasite.

The username/password you set in the module settings is only used to create the authentication ticket that passes the identity of a user to Mediasite when viewing content. This should be an admin level account in Mediasite.

We haven't even managed to get that far. I log into moodle with a username that has mediasite adminstrator permissions, when I try to search for mediasite content in the mediasite activity I get "The user does not have permission for impersonation".
I can't see anywhere in mediasite to allow the user to 'impersonate' anything....

The credentials you enter in the configuration page for this Module must be a Mediasite user in the MediasiteAdministrators group. Only members of this group are allowed to do impersonation, which is required for the Module to work.

When you do a Mediasite search in Moodle, the Module first logs in with the credentials saved on the configuration page, and then impersonates the currently logged in Moodle user.

I think we have this working now at NC State but how does it work with multiple mediasite instances? The module only allows for one URL, name and password to be put in.
