Moodle-GoogleApps Integration

Moodlerooms and Google have worked together to build a state of the art integration. The 1.0 version of the integration provides:

1. Moodle users are automatically created in Google Apps (Google Docs, Calendar, and Gmail).

2. When you log in to Moodle, you are automatically logged in to Google Apps.

3. A Gmail block in Moodle displays your latest Gmail messages when you login to the Moodle Front Page.

4. A Google Apps block on the Moodle Front Page displays links to your Google Start Page, Google Docs, Google Calendar and Gmail.

5. A Google Widget shows a link to Moodle on the Google side.

Impossible to configure without documentation. Documentation is probably available at this link : http://development.moodlerooms.com/course/view.php?id=30
however signing up for the site does not allow access to that course. We get this after signing up and trying to access :

This course does not allow public access

Jason

Thanks for the guest access, with which I've been able to read the instructions. Few points :

1. Guest access still does not allow discussions to be added on the site

2. I've followed all the instructions and everything got installed and configured. Now in moodle 1.9.4+ , when I want to add blocks to the course page, the blocks are missing from the dropdown menu. I can't see the Gmail or Google Apps blocks, even though the same are installed and configured.

3. The download does not contain the widget, which i assume is optional.

I wish the discussion forum for this block was on this moodle site, it would be easier for all i suppose

Well I installed, configured the Moodle and Google authentication and Google Block as per the instructions.  I used the test feature and all seemed to work.  I even connected to Google Apps once.. then logged off for lunch.   Now when I attempt to log in to Moodle, I get a blank screen.

Just installed this in the latest (1.9.5) Moodle Installation, following all the steps in the instructions and had the exact same situation as marc.

Whenever I attempt to login to Moodle I get a blank screen, being unable to login sucessfully.

I'd be thankful if someone could tell us what's going on as this add-on has a lot of potential!

Thanks

This is great, i'm looking forward to having a go at trying an install. Just a quick question... does this only work with Google Apps Education edition, or can you get it working with premier edition too?

Thanks!

I managed to get this working with my Moodle 1.9.5+ test installation and our Google Apps, Education Edition by following the instructions step-by-step. It works nicely, but seems to slow down the login, initial page-load, and profile-editing processes to a crawl. Has anyone else experienced this?

I managed to reduce the initial page-load time by disabling all this add-on's blocks except the Google User-Sync block, but even with SSO disabled it now takes about a minute for anyone to successfully log in, and at least 30 seconds for an edited user-profile page to update. This will be too slow for most of our users, I'm afraid. I would like to use this, but unless there is some way to speed up the authentication process, I don't see us being able to implement it. sad

Did anyone figure out the blank screen thing? I get it when I click "Notifications" and when trying to look in the authentication area where you'd normally choose LDAP, email or whatever authentication method you'd like to use.

Hi folks,

I love this block, it works great HOWEVER, I always get zero messages unread in the gmail block even though there are unread mails in my inbox. The links to all the apps work fine when I log into moodle. I cannot figure out why this happens, I have entered the Oauth key etc. Any suggestions please it would be nice to see new mails on the frontpage rather than have to select the gmail or inbox link, I know that it's only a small inconvenience but hey, why have it if it isn't going to work properly?

Cheers

Wheelie
